On the 20th May of this year Archbishop John Sherrington Joined with us to learn about the Aims and objectives of Merseyside Catholic Racial Justice Association and to share his own experiences from when he worked in Hammersmith, London. Social Action is key. We want to work together to challenge the injustice of racism within Our communities.
Our Action Plan focuses on:
1. Celebrating diversity: encouraging a shared International Table across parishes where all are welcome. Sharing food together helps to break down barriers and build relationships.
2. Raising awareness around the damage that Racism causes within our communities. Addressing false information and encouraging a two-way dialogue. We will use Racial Justice Sunday as a platform to launch new initiatives.
3. Provide Educational resources in schools to drive meaningful changes and challenge preconceived ideas around race and culture. Collaboration with other organisations i.e. gather 'real' stories and facilitate 'listening' events.
We want to call out the injustice of Racism within our society. Name it and bring it out into the light so that it can be addressed. When Jesus was asked; “Who is my Neighbour?” His response was irrefutable in the parable of the ‘Good Samaritan:
The man who was robbed, beaten and left for dead..... “ 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 ....” (Luke 10: 25-37)
We are stronger together and our communities reflect the many faces of God. Watch this space. We will be launching a new type of interactive story-telling on the Archdiocese website.
