St Mary’s Centre 98 Hunters Rd, Birmingham , United KingdomTowards a More Just, More Equal, More Cooperative Society A Residential Retreat Sponsored by the CARJ Urban Network 18-19 April 2015 St Mary’s Centre, Handsworth 98 Hunters Rd, Birmingham B19 1EB The Retreat will provide an opportunity to explore our vision of the good society, using the recent publication - On Rock or Sand? * - as a framework for reflection. We will recall the historical roots of 21st century Britain, consider key issues (eg democracy, the economy, health, education, work, etc) and try to discern a renewed vision for the future. There will be time for quiet reflection, sharing, prayer and discernment. Theresa Byrne will facilitate the Retreat. Individual participants, who are comfortable doing so, will be invited to prepare brief reflections to introduce each session. This event is intended for members of the CARJ Urban Network and any others who are interested in the spiritual challenge of creating a more just, more equal, more cooperative society. While CARJ is a Catholic organisation, the gathering is open to participants from diverse backgrounds and beliefs. St Thomas More Church 9 Henry Road, London, United KingdomIdentity, Equality and Community: A Time for Reflection and Discernment The CARJ Annual General Meeting will take place on 5 November 2016 at St Thomas More Church, 9 Henry Rd, London N4 2LH (11:00 – 4:00). The business meeting will be followed by Mass, lunch, and keynote speaker leading into our discussion the theme of the day. The BREXIT Referendum has highlighted some of the serious divisions in our society. These divisions are set against the background of continuing turmoil in the middle east and vast numbers seeking refuge or simply a better life in Europe and the UK. Here at home the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing, many feel left behind, minorities continue to experience discrimination and disadvantage, and there is a recent spike in hate crime. In the face of this complex local and global challenge, we in CARJ feel it is an appropriate time for reflection and discernment. Racial Justice Sunday 2017 – 12th February
Members and Friends of CARJ Racial Justice Sunday will take place this year on 12 February 2017. It will be an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the many complex challenges facing us in a troubled world. The BREXIT Referendum has highlighted some of the serious divisions in our society. These divisions are set against the background of continuing turmoil in the middle east and other parts of the world, with many seeking refuge or simply a better life in Europe and the UK. Here at home the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing, many feel left behind, minorities continue to experience discrimination and disadvantage, and there is a recent spike in hate crime. In the face of such a complex global and local challenge, we in CARJ feel it is an appropriate time for reflection and discernment, and Racial Justice Sunday is an appropriate time to begin that process. On Racial Justice Sunday, there will be a collection in parishes across England & Wales to support the Church’s work for racial justice.
