CARJ Mourns Jean Murat, Black Catholic Speaks co-Author

From the Homily at Jean’s Funeral on 23rd Jan 2023

In preparing his funerals, I came across, thanks to Barbara, this little book: Black Catholics speak. Jean is one of the authors and he reflects on his experience when he arrived in England and taught in the school. As a foreigner, he experienced abuse and racism, and his mental health was greatly affected.  In writing this reflection he acknowledges that God was present to him in the good people he met during these difficult times. It led him to get involved in Pax Christi where he found meaning and I would dare to say a vocation: building peace and friendship where there is prejudice and abuse. His great involvement of his latter life in the Refugee Centre is a continuation of this call. Retired, he wanted to be close to those who are vulnerable, especially the refuges, remembering his difficult times when he arrived in England.

So Jean, I would think that the beatitudes which is yours in this one: Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. As you have leaved us, we hope in faith that yours is now the Kingdom of heaven. Dear Jean, pray for us as we need your faithful and dedicated support in these timesFr Pascal Boidin
